Lesson Five: Digital Media Overview & Rubric

Digital Media Reach the Masses
Each group has been assigned four applications. One is video based, one presentation based, one is a social media site and the last is a writing application. Follow each step to get full credit for this assignment.

Step 1: Look at the four different apps that you have been assigned, do you already have an account or know how to use it? If so that should help you.

Step 2: I have assigned each person 1 application. (If you are researching the app you are the “point-person” for that part of the project)Know that you are in charge of not only finding out all about this application but also you will be in charge of choosing the best app in your specialty for you and your group to use.

Step 3: View a tutorial on how to use your application. This can be found under the Tutorials link on the Make Waves homepage.  Take Notes.

Step 4: Sign-Up for an account.

Step 5: Play around with as many features as you can for anywhere from 10-30 minutes. If you already use this Application regularly try to find other features that you have not used.

Step 6: Now let’s get started…You are going to use the apps features for us tomorrow on the SMART Board.  Answer the following questions in a post/page/presentation/blog etc… using the application that you are assigned.
  • Is the application free?
  • Is the software cloud based?
  • How do you sign up to use this software?
  • Is it free?    Is it difficult to use?
  • Does it need a specific OS?
  • What can you create with this application? How?
  • Can you include pictures? How?
  • Can you include text in this app? How?
  • Can you include video? How?
  • What are the ways you can share with this app?
  • Make sure you show us text, video, and pictures that you have posted.
  • Will you be using this app for your social cause? Why or why not?
Step 7: As you answer each question using your application, maybe you film your answers and post them, maybe your answers are all text based, but all of the answers are there, and you have effectively shown us how to use this app.

Step 8: Present your page and the answers to the above questions. Answer all questions to the best or your ability.

Step 9: While the other groups are presenting, ask questions, give feedback and evaluate them using the rubric below. Send the rubric to the person you evaluated for feedback. My evaluation will go in the gradebook.
